Three Things About Me

  1. I have an unhealthy obsession for lotions. Bath and Body Works, to be specific. And candles. Anything with a lovely scent. Black Cherry Merlot? *dies*
  2. The older I get, the less I enjoy sweets. Growing up, “no dessert” was the line that made me drop everything and do what I was told. As a teenager, I used to keep a tube of icing in my purse for a quick fix. But as of the last few years? I’ll sooner leave it than have something with sugar in it. I’ve made plenty of cakes and cookies and desserts that have gone untouched by me.
    …Except for pastries.
    Now you know my weakness.
  3. I was dead set on being an architect, but my fear of math and engineering prevented me from pursuing a career there. Instead, I majored in paralegal until life changes took me out of college. And now, all I want to be is a librarian.

The Questions I Have to Answer

  1. What’s the book you always wanted to read (or should have read) when you were younger but couldn’t because you never found it/it didn’t exist? Like, what would you have felt truly represented you?
It’s an odd thing, because it seems that I seem to read books at the most pertinent times in my life. Les Miserables initially comes to mind because it probably had the biggest impact in my life. I was going through a trial in my life that did require forgiveness on my part, and if you know the story, you know how large of an impact that story can have. Other similar books that pertained to my life while reading it would include Brothers Karamazov, Great Expectations, and The Red and the Black.
  2. Are you good with directions? (I’m not.)
Absolutely. I have an internal compass in my mind, and I’ve no need for a GPS. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been lost. Once in a city I’ve never been to (Baltimore, yikes), and the other times at night attempting to skirt traffic in North Jersey.
  3. Starbucks, yes or no? Explain why.
Ehhh, I used to be at Starbucks all the time in my youth about 10-15 years ago, but then it became “the spot” and its appeal left me. On average, I go to Starbucks about once a year.
  4. What are you the most hopeful about for 2017?
    Improvement in my writing.
  5. Weird question: Do you have a favorite airport? (Mine’s SeaTac.)
EWR (Newark). Probably because it’s my airport to home. My least favorite would be SAT (San Antonio) because that is where my seven weeks of boot camp hell commenced.

My Nominees:

You don’t have to make a blog post, unless you want to of course. You’re welcome to just answer in the comments. In fact, anyone can put in their answers in the comments if desired! 😀

…And Their Questions

  1. Weird question: Are you afraid of the dark?
  2. What is your favorite genre to write? Or, what genre do you wish you could write?
  3. What are your thoughts on vampires? As in, do you find them corny, overdone, classic, entertaining, or something else?
  4. Your favorite movie, along with your favorite actor/actress.
  5. The last book you read.

Lastly, My Best Post

But does that mean stat-wise, or according to me? I guess both would cover all the bases:

  1. Stat-wise: 9 Reasons Why I Don’t Use Scrivener
  2. Personally: None. Okay, well I really really feel for Using Modern Colloquialisms in the Fantasy Genre

  1. Favorite airport is an interesting question… I would say Memphis because the one time I went there, it was so quiet. And I’m with you on Starbucks!

  2. Ah, Newark. I’ve flown through there, but did not enjoy the experience because it was such a hassle to get there from my school in New York (Yonkers area). On the way back I was planning on taking public transportation to Grand Central and the train back to campus, but chickened out at the last minute and arranged for a $100 shuttle ride from the bag claim area. If it had been more convenient, I’m sure I would have enjoyed it more.

    • Going north is a nightmare, I absolutely understand where you’re coming from — figuratively and literally! Yonkers is far, but I guess the ride from JFK wouldn’t be much different than from Jersey. Fortunately, I live south of EWR, but I’ve taken the train to the city plenty of times and yeah, it always sucks unless you’ve done it a million times.

  3. Awww, thank you for nominating me, Jessica! And congrats on being nominated yourself. 🙂 This might be a good easy post to save for a week when I have a Writers Helping Writers or DIY MFA post going live.

I’m not into scented lotions too much – but shower gels? And body sprays? Yes please! My favorite scents from Bath & Body Works right now are Moonlight Path and Japanese Cherry Blossom. They used to have a whole host of other scents I love, but a lot of them are retired now…

And CANDLES. I love mostly floral and fresh scents, and most of them are Yankee Candle. Midnight Jasmine, Ocean Star, Midsummer’s Night, Exotic Bloom (retired), Kilimanjaro Stars (also retired)… Do you see a pattern? (*lol*)

Yes, now we know your weakness. But the question is, what kind of pastries? 😉

I haven’t been to many airports, but my least favorite was Miami. That was… gosh, almost 20 years ago the last time I was there, so I don’t know whether things have changed there… but I remember it being the most chaotic airport I’d ever visited at that point.

Great choice for a personal favorite blog post. I remember reading that a few months ago, and agree with it 100%. I think we were talking about something similar on Twitter this past weekend, too…?

    • Definitely! No rush of course, but looking forward to your thoughts.

Ooh, candles yes! I really like those scent warmers now, mainly because hubby has a conniption when I have an open flame in the house. And I’m tired of him blowing out my candles if I walk out of the room for one second. I had Jack Frost and Salted Caramel on tap over the holidays, but my favorites would be Bubbly Pomegranate and Black Cherry. I love the berry and baking scents! I missed Kilimanjaro Stars, that sounds like it could be similar to Midsummer’s Night? That is a lovely scent.

Oh my word, yes they ALWAYS discontinue the best stuff — the best shampoos, the best scents, it’s so frustrating. Fortunately, B&BW keeps their “retired” scents for online ordering, so I splurge online for the holiday clearances ❤ I absolutely love Secret Wonderland, Black Cherry Merlot, and Vanilla Bean Noel. Their handsoap selection is amazing, too! Moonlight Path is classic, I really like that one at one time. I can keep going on and on but I'll digress.

Pastries? Did someone say pastries? *lol* Italian pastries (minus the connoli, I'm so tired of cannolis), rainbow cookies definitely in the top three, turnovers and strudels, that French mille one (flaky vanilla creme cake), macaroons (okay, technically not a pastry),basically anything that's almondy and flaky. And any Japanese sweets.

Miami airport definitely seems chaotic… I picture lots of people arriving in a rush to catch their cruises lol! I flew in to Orlando when I was younger and I think the shock of Florida itself, palm trees and humidity, had a bigger impact than the fact that the airport there was nothing like the ones up here!

And yes, we did discuss the same topic a bit on Twitter! #authorconfessions wanted to know the writing pet peeves, and it was the first thing that came to my head. Some of the #authorconfession questions are hard!
